The unimaginatively-named Main Anchorage (or more commonly, “The Main”) is a military fortress-island that houses the (diminishing) core of Mandateum’s military strength. Most of the isle sits in the lee of a large ridge, and a system of dams and aqueducts have created large reservoirs of fresh water that ships from all throughout the Shattered Reach are permitted to freely water at, provided they show proper deference to imperial power. The large harbor houses the imperial fleet, and the elite marines of the Mandateum’s navy drill and train on the isle’s many beaches and forests.
The Main also houses a large civilian population supporting the marines. The civilian residents of the Main have a military-influenced culture and pride in their work, and are governed by a military-parallel hierarchy of commanders, all of whom ultimately report to the Admiral.
